      History:
The current salvage vessel Taucher Flint III is a hybrid of a former cargo sailing ship and a steamship, making it a one-off. Built in 1888 as a Dutch tjalk, a flat-bottomed, single-masted sailing ship, the former Welvaarte became the property of the long-established Hamburg salvage company M. A. Flint after stranding in the Elbe estuary in 1910. Between 1910-12, the former sailing ship was converted into a steamship. The propulsion engine, a two-cylinder compound steam engine, and steam boiler were supplied by the renowned machine factory Christiansen & Meyer. Various steam units, pumps and spills, which were gradually installed, were presumably already fitted on other ships salvaged by Flint.
From 1912, the steamer went back into service under its new name "Taucher Flint III".

Over the decades, the striking vessel took part in numerous salvage operations, mainly in the port of Hamburg and on the Lower Elbe, but was also involved in missions during both world wars. The steamer came to fame and honor thanks to its missions after the Second World War. The port of Hamburg was full of wrecks. There could hardly be a better contemporary witness to the clean-up operations in the war-damaged port of Hamburg.
For actual salvage operations, it was equipped with a steam-powered loading winch, and the powerful bow rollers at the front could also be used to pull up anchors or piles. The steamer also had steam-driven air pumps, which could be used to blow water out of sealed sections of a wreck. The ship was often simply used as a base vehicle for helmet divers. Unfortunately, the diver Flint III cannot find a new owner. Due to cost-intensive renovation work, which many maritime museums cannot afford due to the economic situation, Taucher Flint III was finally dismantled. However, the antique technical cultural asset should still arouse some desire.
